If you’re looking at buying a new home this summer then it’s important for you to hire a home inspector. It is important to conduct a home inspection to avoid a costly mistake by purchasing a property in need of major repairs! However, you want to make sure your home inspector is someone that you can trust. When hiring a home inspector, it’s important to ask some questions beforehand that way you know exactly what you’re getting.
Some important questions to ask when hiring a home inspector are:
Are they licensed?
Not every state requires that a home inspector be licensed, but most states do! If you happen to live in a state where home inspectors aren’t required to have a license, you will want to know what other certifications they have. You might also want to ask about their experience! Questions like “How long have you been inspecting homes?” or “What kind of training do you have?” can be helpful too.
When will the report be ready?
The period you have to purchase a home can be short! So, you’ll want to know when your report will be ready especially if you’ll be needing to contact contractors to come and repair any damages that were found.
Does the report have a summary page?
Understanding a full report can be tricky for some, however, having a summary page can be helpful! You can ask your home inspector to see a sample report that way you’ll know what format to expect when getting yours back.
What types of services do they offer?
This one might seem a bit obvious but you’d be surprised to know that not all home inspectors offer the same services. Here at Jones Warren we offer: Pre-Listing Inspection, New Construction, Air Quality Mold Inspection, Radon Testing, and Chinese Drywall Inspection. We also offer to inspect your roof and offer free re-inspections!
Hiring the right home inspector is an important step in purchasing a new home! And we want to make sure that you are able to pick the right one based off of your needs.
